Cereal

I bought a new kind of cereal to mix things up a bit.

Oscar: Mom, this cereal rocks my mouth! It makes my mouth all yellow.

Me: Does that mean you like it?

Oscar: Yes!

A Hundred Bucks!

Me: Oscar come flush the toilet please.

Oscar: Mom if you flush it for me I'll give you a hundred bucks.

(He put too much toilet paper in it the other day and made it over flow. Totally freaked him out.)

So I flushed it for him.

Oscar: Thanks Mom. In alotta days, I'll ask dad for the money OK?!

Watching TV with Larkin

Harry Potter was on. During the commercials I would change it and watch another show. I forget what it's called but two guys go around and buy storage lockers and find treasures to sell. Anyway, then Larkin says:

"I like to watch the commercials because then I can see if there is a good deal on something. Like a waffle maker for 9 bucks or something. And I also never miss any part of my show."

I quickly wrote that down so I wouldn't forget and then I could put it on my blog. She's so funny and random.

But as I'm typing it I realize what she did. I stopped changing the channel after that. She got her way.

The way she did it is the best part. No wining, begging, yelling, or getting mad. Just pointing out the positives and letting me do the rest. What a smart girl.

I don't know if I'm happy or scared that she is figuring out that it's not hard to talk her mom into things.

We wouldn't want to disappoint your Swimsuit.

Me: How come you have your swimsuit on?

Oscar: It wants me to wear it.

I actually really love that he likes his swimsuit so much. He lets me cut his hair if I promise he can wear it in the bathtub after.

Supa Coo! Fa Sho!

We were kneeling waiting for Dad to come in for family prayer.

Lilly: (sigh)I'm cool.

Me: Can I put that on my blog?

Lilly: (giggles) ... Yes, cause I am.

Random things about my kids that I don't want to forget, so I'm going to write it down here. #5

THE CARROT CODE

We had gotten a new home teacher. We were chatting. He started asking the kids questions to get to know them better. He started talking to Larkin. Larkin was snacking on a carrot stick. The conversation went a little like this.

Home Teacher: Let's see, Larkin, you are 8. Are you enjoying being in Activity Days?

A little silence and then ...

Larkin: (This was said with an unemotional, kind of bored voice. Remember she is snacking on a carrot stick.) If I bite once it means no. Two times means yes.

Then she made a distinct CRUNCH CRUNCH!

She gave us all a good laugh. Our Home Teacher said he kept laughing about it to himself the next day at work. Then people would ask him what was so funny. It's not really something you can explain to someone.

I'm glad she likes Activity Days.

My boys

Larkin was (im)patiently waiting for me to help her with her hair this morning. She asked:

Larkin: Where were you?

Me: Lilly was showing me her homework that I needed to sign.

Larkin: Oh. Dad said you were fighting Germans.

Then on the way to school we were a little late. Our trip is usually quick without meeting many other cars till we get close to the school. Today we had to wait for cars everywhere which made us a lot slower. Something you don't want when you're late. I asked:

Me: What's with all the traffic today?

Then Oscar answered: Maybe they're going to a fight.

I wonder where he gets it from.

Random things about my kids that I don't want to forget, so I'm going to write it down here. #4

Lilly and Larkin (my guess is about ages 7 & 5) used to put oven mitts on their feet and slide around on the kitchen floor.

They pretended that they were ice skating.

They even invited Blake and I in to watch.

They had music and routines and then awarded each other with flowers and did victory laps around the kitchen while we clapped.

Slippery Frog Land

Blake: Dude, get your shoes on?

Oscar: Where are we going Dad?

Blake: Slippery Frog Land (If you know Blake, you know that it is not an unusual answer ... For him.)

Oscar: Mom, we're going to Slippery Frog Land!

Me: Really, where's that?

Oscar: (Whispers to Dad) Is it in California?

Blake: No it's close by.

Oscar: It's close by Mom.

We went to the mall.

I should have known

Oscar Sunday after church: Mom I lost my paper at church.

Me: You did?

Oscar: Ya, I think it's at church.

Me: What did your paper say?

Oscar: ha ha Paper can't talk Mom.

I guess I walked right into that one.

Saturday Afternoon

I'm helping the girls clean their room. I was dusting their dresser and found a dollar. I asked Lilly. She said she didn't know who it belonged to. I asked Larkin. She didn't know either.

Then Larkin suggested that we give it to Oscar.
Larkin: I don't think he's ever had a dollar before. Can I give it to Oscar Mom?

Me: Sure

Larkin: Oscar, do you want this dollar?

Oscar: Like for the ice cream man?

Larkin: Sure

Oscar: OK!

Larkin: Let's put it in your piggy bank.

Larkin: Hey Dad, I gave Oscar a dollar.

Dad: Really? Hey Oscar let me see your dollar.

Oscar: No(Said with a smile. He just assumes Daddy will tease him.)

Dad: Bring that dollar to me Oscar. It's your rent.

Oscar: NO! It's not red. It's green.

Favors for Oscar

Oscar: Mom will you get me a drink?

Me: Sure

Oscar: Mom will you move this stuff off the couch?

(It was my stuff so I moved it for him.)

Oscar: Will you get me my Dlanky? (blanky)

(It was right by my feet so I did.)

Oscar: Mom will you do me a favor?

Me: What?

Oscar: Kiss me and hug me?

X O

Oscar: Thanks. That's my favor.

To my knowledge, she's never had anything to do with a fake moustache

Larkin: I hate fake moustaches!

(She declared this while watching Drake and Josh. I was in the room sitting at the computer and didn't say anything in response to it. If you know Larkin or you've read my blog you know that life with her means that you hear crazy things all the time. When I didn't respond she did the kid thing where they call you until you answer them.)

Larkin: Mom ... Momma ... MOM

Me: hm?

Larkin: I hate fake moustaches because sometimes you put too much glue on them and it hurts to take them off.

Me: OK

Remember this girl

Janelle!

I did a post about her and her dating adventure. She went on 31 dates on the last 31 one days of her 31st year (of life). And kept a blog about it. It was so much fun. I was addicted. It was the first thing I would get up and do. Check and see how Janelle's date went last night. All of my friends and family that knew Janelle were reading the blog and we were all talking about it. We laughed about how entertained we all were but it really was so fun! I went through withdrawals when it was all over. I kept checking the blog hoping that she would write more.

Anyway, I bring this all up because there is a happy ending to it all. The last date she went on. Guy #31. They are engaged! (Someone needs to make a movie out of that don't you think? or write a book!)

Here is the Fun with 31 blog that she kept. She has since updated and talked about how they got engaged.

Love you Janelle! I am so excited!

What do you think?

Larkin said: Those reading tests make writing like a big woman's purse.

I tried to talk to her and figure out what she meant by that.
I asked questions like:

So are reading tests hard?
Does that mean a big woman's purse is hard?
So if a big woman's purse is good then what about reading tests? I thought you didn't like those.
Where does the big purse come into play?

I still don't quite understand.
I did figure out that:

Reading tests are hard.
A big woman's purse is good.
She wasn't talking about writing tests.
Somehow math tests are involved.
And the woman is big not the purse.

Larkin finally just got mad at me and I had to stop before I made her cry. I really just wanted to figure it out because I think that the things Larkin says are so interesting and I really think I would have been able to get to the bottom of the "purse" if her sister hadn't started laughing.

More words of wisdom by Larkin

(Sitting in a movie theater, waiting for the movie to start.)

"It's a good thing someone invented popcorn. Otherwise we'd be sitting here eating seeds."

You had me at brownie.

Larkin and I were watching Man vs Food. They were showing big hamburgers. Larkin's favorite.

Larkin: That makes me want to have a hamburger right now. (said with dreamy eyes)

Me: We're going to have hamburgers at the Matthews' today after the baptism.

(Lane Matthews is getting baptized today! So proud of you Laney!)

Larkin: Hooray! I love their hamburgers.

Me: I need to get busy making treats for the party.

Larkin: What treats are you going to make Mom?

Me: Brownies and rice crispy treats

Larkin: mmmmmmm Wait, what was the second thing you said you were going to make mom? You had me at brownie.

The girl loves food.

Larkin Quotes

"Mommy, Daddy ... I love you so matter what!"

(Sometimes Larkin has a hard time getting up in the morning.)

"Mom, sometimes my head is awake but my body isn't ... It's just that my body doesn't have ears. It can't hear that it's supposed to get up."
