More words of wisdom by Larkin

(Sitting in a movie theater, waiting for the movie to start.)

"It's a good thing someone invented popcorn. Otherwise we'd be sitting here eating seeds."

You had me at brownie.

Larkin and I were watching Man vs Food. They were showing big hamburgers. Larkin's favorite.

Larkin: That makes me want to have a hamburger right now. (said with dreamy eyes)

Me: We're going to have hamburgers at the Matthews' today after the baptism.

(Lane Matthews is getting baptized today! So proud of you Laney!)

Larkin: Hooray! I love their hamburgers.

Me: I need to get busy making treats for the party.

Larkin: What treats are you going to make Mom?

Me: Brownies and rice crispy treats

Larkin: mmmmmmm Wait, what was the second thing you said you were going to make mom? You had me at brownie.

The girl loves food.

Larkin Quotes

"Mommy, Daddy ... I love you so matter what!"

(Sometimes Larkin has a hard time getting up in the morning.)

"Mom, sometimes my head is awake but my body isn't ... It's just that my body doesn't have ears. It can't hear that it's supposed to get up."

Things Larkin knows

Larkin: It's hard to tie things to your head.

2 past the toobie

Oscar:

Mom look!

(singing and rocking back and forth)

Two past the toobie. Follow, follow me. Two past the toobie. Follow, follow me!
(Do as I'm doing)

Not totally sure if he was trying to be funny or if that's what he really thinks it says.

James Tanner Klippel

He reports to the MTC in Provo tomorrow. He is the first of my nephews to be old enough to go. I am so proud and nervous and excited for him.

Boys that go on missions are the coolest!

Oscar # whatever

I walked in on the kids talking. I still don't know the context of this statement.

Oscar: It's hard to kill old ladies.

Oscar

Lilly and I are reading The Goose Girl(Shannon Hale). (It's SOOOO good!)

While we were reading last night Oscar kept coming in the room, pacing around, jumping on the bed and circling around us. It was a mixture of he had to go to the bathroom and he was tired.

I finally said, "Oscar, you either need to go play somewhere else or sit still. Just stop circling around us."

Then he said, "Mom, it's not circling. It's a rectangle!"

Larkin quotes

Drinking water is like breathing wet air.

Mom, sometimes I pretend my leg is an elephant's trunk and he has to ware a sock and shoe on the end.

Random things about my kids that I don't want to forget, so I'm going to write it down here. #3

October '07ish

Driving the girls to school. Listening to a mix CD that Blake made. Jane's Addiction, Mountain Song comes on.

I'm having a moment. I think, "I'm just a stay at home mom, but I'm still cool."

...

Then after a little bit, Lilly says from the back seat, "Mom, why do we always have to listen to this old fashion music?"

Bubble burst. Back to reality. I'm not cool.

Larkin Maureen Jensen

She got baptized this weekend.

She was so excited she couldn't sit still. She was bouncing off the walls and talking to herself the whole time. Man I love that girl. She is so unique and loves EVERYONE with her whole body and soul.

Can you see what I mean?

You know how after they get confirmed, they go around the circle and shake all of the men's hands? Well not Larkin. She had to give each one a big squeeze! It really is a treat to be loved by Larkin.

This picture makes me so happy!

It was a great day!

Singing her little heart out.

Lo – gi - cal Foooood!

That's not how it goes is it? To be honest, I'm not sure.

Random things about my kids that I don't want to forget, so I'm going to write it down here. #2

When Oscar was a baby he was a little colicky. Sometimes he would just cry and cry and cry.

The one thing that would get him to stop was when his sister Larkin would sing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. It never failed.

Handsome

It's morning. I'm sitting on the couch by myself. No one else is up yet. I'm doing a little planning, pondering, and praying. I hear Oscar's door open. I can't see him but I can hear him.

Oscar: Oh my gosh ... What the heck? (all said in a tired, why am I out of bed kind of way)

He wanders around the corner. He's got his blanket over his head. Then he takes a peek and sees me.

Me: Dude why did you say that?

He climbs on my lap and snuggles up.

Oscar: Um ... dogs

We laugh.

Oscar: I so very love you Mom.

I am legend

I got first place using the wheel on Mario Kart. Most of you will say, “OK” kind of slow like “Who cares?” or perhaps “What does that mean?”

The wheel is not the controller of choice around here when it comes to Mario Kart. It's hard and I always end up over correcting. Anyway Oscar wanted me to race with him so I did. I chose the wheel just for the heck of it. I ended up getting first place. Right at that time Larkin walked by.

Me: Look what I just did. (showing her my controller and what place I got)
Larkin: YOU ARE LEGENDARY!

That girl is such a crack up.

What's the most exciting thing going on at your house?

A long time ago my parents told some of their grandkids that they would give them $100.00 if they read the Book of Mormon by themselves. Lilly, whose ten, has started to try and accomplish that goal several times, with dollar signs in her eyes.

The other morning Lilly, Larkin, and I were doing our morning scripture study and the subject of "what would you give us if we read all of the scriptures all by our selves" came up.

They know that reading The Book of Mormon would get them some cash. But what about The Bible.

"Could I get a new bike?!" said Lilly with excitement in her eyes.

Then I said, "Well The Bible is a lot longer than the BofM. I would want to give you something better than a bike. I'd probably send you to Texas."

Lilly: REALLY! (with some almost tears in her eyes)

Me: Totally!

Larkin: I want to go too! If I read it can I go too?!

Me: Fur Sure! Totally! (I swear I'm not a valley girl. It just comes out that way some times)

So the next day at school Lilly told Turner(her cousin) about the deal. He got so excited. He asked his mom if he could have the same deal.

She said, "Fur Sure!" (We're sisters.)

Oscar is on board too. He can't wait to see his "best buddy" Sarger.

They have been reading everyday. Together. It's the cutest thing you've ever seen.

So all I have to say is watch out Paige. We're totally sending some kids your way!
(Paige is another sister who lives in Texas obviously and is the one they are all excited about seeing. They might be excited about seeing her kids too.)

Lilly

When she was about 2 1/2 Larkin was a new born. Every morning during that time I would wake up to Lilly sitting in my bed next to me. Just staring at me. Watching me sleep. Waiting for me to wake up. She was so sweet. Politely letting me get enough rest.

For Paige

She requested a new post.

It's been a while. I've had plenty to blog about. I just haven't.

I'm not sure where to start.

So here's a song by Elbow that Lilly and I have been liking lately.
(Don't be affraid to turn it up. It's really the only way to listen to this song.)

Also here's another song by the same group that I love. It doesn't have quite as sweet of a message but the music is so cool I can't help but turn it up.

I all done.

Oscar just woke up. He's just in his under ware. When Daddy puts you to bed you just don't bother with jammies.

Oscar: Mom, I'm so very cold.

Me: I'll get you some clothes. Just a second.

Oscar: Can I have some cereal?

Me: Sure, what kind do you want?

Oscar: plaw plates (frosted flakes)

Me: OK, I'll go get your clothes and then we'll fix you your cereal.

As I'm leaving the kitchen:

Oscar: I want to watch a movie.

Me: You have to read your scriptures first.

Oscar: OK

I came back to the kitchen and saw this:

and I heard this: Behold ... the Nephites ... applesauce, Mom, I all done.

Why Cream

Oscar: Mom! I'm so very hungry. (in a yelling, mad, I can't take it anymore kind of way)

Me: You are? (in a my poor baby, because I know that he's just tired, kind of way)

Oscar: Uhu. (very pitiful like)

Me: Do you want a banana? (trying to be cheerful)

Oscar: no (still very pitiful)

Me: Do you want a peanut butter sandwich?

Oscar: No

(I can see now that he realizes that I am trying to make him happy and that maybe he can get something good out of the situation, but he still needs to appear that he is suffering.)

Oscar: (He's poring it on pretty thick now.) Peanut Butter is so very yucky. I think I need some why cream. (that means ice cream)

I told him I'll be right back. I left to come and type this so that I wouldn't forget.

I can hear him in the other room. "We will. We will, rock you!"

He got his ice cream.

So What! I Don't care!

I know you all did your Halloween posts months ago. (You were on top of things and your kids were just adorable. Really! I love seeing what everyone dresses up as. The classic princesses, the clever costumes that make you laugh, they were all great!)

I know what month it is. I know January is almost over. I know most of you did your Halloween posts. Then moved on to a Thanksgiving post, complete with lists of things that you are truly thankful for. I know you've already showed us how beautiful your Christmases were. I know you topped it all off with a little spiritual thought about the true reason for the season. Shared good ideas on how you taught your children about service and having the spirit of Christ in our lives. I know you did it and I loved reading about it.

I know some people think that it is a little too late to be posting Halloween pictures. I say, SO WHAT?! I DON'T CARE!

Aren't they spooky?

(Ninja, Zombie Cheerleader, Vampire Princess)
